How we review

Each product also gets a price band (Budget, Mid-range or Premium) that compares it only with the other products in the same list: we rank the ten by typical selling price and split them roughly into thirds. We never show price figures, so check the retailer for today’s price.

Every product on our lists is available on Amazon UK. If you shop on Amazon, these are our picks for the best in each category. Amazon doesn’t review, endorse or choose our picks; we pick them ourselves from published UK tests.

Where our information comes from

We don’t test products ourselves. Instead, we research what has already been published: independent UK test reviews, manufacturer specifications and manuals, and safety information such as BEAB approval or overheat protection. Where reviewers disagree, we say so, and we give more weight to tests that explain how they measured things like noise, extraction rate or warm-up time. Every list cites its sources so you can check them yourself.

How we work out running costs

Running costs are calculated, not measured. We take each product’s rated power from the manufacturer and multiply it by the current Ofgem price cap unit rate for electricity (26.32p/kWh for October to December 2026). Real costs will usually be lower, because thermostats and humidistats switch products on and off, and your own tariff may differ. When the price cap changes, we update the figures and the page date.

What we don’t claim

We don’t claim to have used, measured or lived with the products on our lists. Affiliate commission never changes our rankings. Drawbacks come from published reviews and specs, not our own experience. If you spot an error or an out-of-date detail, please contact us and we will check it and correct the page.

Each list follows the same process:

  1. Shortlist from respected UK test reviews (for example Which?, Ideal Home, Homebuilding & Renovating, Trusted Reviews), keeping only models currently on sale in the UK.
  2. Rank on criteria suited to the category (for heaters: heating for size, noise, ease of use and portability, value).
  3. Pros & cons come from what the reviewers actually reported. Every list says whether we tested products hands-on or not.
  4. Cite sources on every list and show a last-updated date. We only change the date when the content has actually changed.
Automation: AI-assisted tools may help with research and drafting. A human checks every fact before publication, and each list says how it was made.
Images: we use our own illustrations, licence-clear photos (credited), or AI-generated illustrations labelled as such. We don't use retailer or brand photos without permission.
