A fan heater that drones all night is no good in a bedroom. We re-ranked our heater list for one thing, how quiet it is, using only published decibel figures and testers’ comments. Where a maker or reviewer doesn’t publish a noise figure, we say so.

| Heater | Type | Noise | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mill WiFi Max 1500W | Convector | “Silent” (no dB published) | Ideal Home, Trusted Reviews |
| Duux Edge Oil 2000W | Oil radiator | “Very quiet” in normal mode (no dB) | Testers cited in our heater list |
| Dimplex HeatLite Tex 2kW | Convector | “Very quiet” (no dB) | Homebuilding & Renovating |
| Dreo Atom 316 | Ceramic fan | “Quiet” (no dB in our sources) | Ideal Home |
| Morphy Richards HeatFlux 1.5kW | Ceramic fan | about 48dB | Ideal Home test |
| Swan 1.5kW Retro (SH27032) | Ceramic fan | 53dB(A) | Currys listing |
| Morphy Richards HeatFlux Ultra Thin 2kW | Ceramic tower | “Not whisper quiet” | Our heater list sources |
Decibels are logarithmic: about 10dB more sounds roughly twice as loud. Reviewers measure differently, so compare figures loosely. We excluded the Swan from the picks because its display flashes on standby and it is the loudest published figure here.
At the Ofgem cap of 26.32p/kWh (Oct–Dec 2026), on full power for 8 hours, which is the worst case. A thermostat will cut this a lot once the room is warm.
| Power | Per hour | 8 hours |
|---|---|---|
| 1.5kW (Mill, Dreo, Morphy Richards) | 39.5p | 315.8p |
| 2kW (Duux Edge Oil, Dimplex) | 52.6p | 421.1p |
Cheaper still: an electric blanket uses a fraction of the power for the bed itself.
Convector heaters and oil-filled radiators have no fan, so they make little noise. Fan and ceramic heaters move air, so they are always audible to some degree.
It is audible in a quiet room, and some people won’t notice it. If any hum bothers you, choose a convector or oil radiator.
We can’t give medical advice. If you use one, choose a model with a thermostat and a tip-over or tilt cut-off, keep it well away from the cot and bedding, and follow your health visitor’s guidance on room temperature.
The Dimplex display is dimmable, and the Morphy Richards HeatFlux dims by 50%. None of our sources confirms a fully dark mode, so check before buying if you need total darkness.
No. We use published figures and testers’ comments, and we say where a figure isn’t published.
We started from the products and sources in our The 10 Best Portable Heaters in the UK (2026) list and re-ranked them for this one question, using only published test results, retailer specs and manufacturer ratings. We have not tested these products hands-on. Figures were checked on 22 Oct 2026. Read our editorial policy.
